The classified and most historic La Maison des Arcades dates back to 1470, although there were previous dwellings here in a 13C village. Described as a like a 'set from Shakespeare', the quaint street is often photographed and features in postcards of Gascony.
The sunny living areas overlook the cobbled street, which is for foot traffic only, and has cool sitting out place under the arcades. Ground floor The front door leads straight into the entrance hall with stairs up to the first floor and access to the garage where our car lives when we are not in France. There are 4 mountain bikes for which we charge a small fee if required. The clothes dryer, tennis racquets and outdoor furniture also are down here.
We have a key to the tennis court in Tillac, as we have paid up membership. Our guests can play free of charge.
Middle floor Stairs lead up to a hall leading into a long living / dining area. One end has a dining setting and desk, original exposed beams and terra-cotta tiled floors. The other end of the room has 2 comfortable couches, and an oak floor with rug. The kitchen, separated by a bench, has built in cupboards, fridge; single bowl sink and washing machine; gas / electric cook top with range hood. There is an excellent bench top oven and a microwave.
There are two bedrooms on this floor, one with a double bed and the other with two singles. The modern bathroom has bath with shower over, fitted wash basin, and WC. Second floor Stairs go up to a large 36 x 16 ft attic room with a big opening skylight. There is a double bed, 2 cots and several comfortable chairs for relaxing.
Gas and electric heating. Electric hot water. Telephone. Parking in the back lane behind the cottage or 50 metres away.
The house sleeps 6 people + 2 babies.
